Emily Dickinson is widely considered one of America's greatest poets. Her keen and poignant observations and unique style of writing broke new ground in poetry. She was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, on 10 December 1830 and wrote prolifically throughout her life, but her first volume of poetry wasn’t published until four years after her death. Hugely successful, however, since then her poems have had a remarkable influence on writers and readers across the world.
