Virginia Woolf was an English novelist, essayist, biographer, and feminist and is recognised as one of the most innovative and important authors of the 20th-century. Writing between the wars, she was at the centre of the English modernist movement, which marked the enormous changes taking place in Western Society. As part of this, she pioneered the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device, and her most notable novels, To the Lighthouse and Mrs Dalloway, are both fabulous examples of this.
